Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People is chocked full of simple yet essential tips for life and business. My favorite tip is the only way to really influence others, in life or in business, is to talk about what they want and show them how you can help them get it. If your kids misbehave, what are they wanting? (Attention? Freedom from boredom? To understand something better?). Figure it out and show them how to get it appropriately.
In business, what do your clients or potential clients really want? This is the KEY to creating a successful service or people-oriented business. If you aren’t sure, survey them and be certain of what they want before you start your business. Or, if you’ve already started a business, find out what they want and switch gears as needed.
Giving your clients or market what they want, not what you think they want, is ESSENTIAL to success!

Great advice as I work to negotiate with a 3-year-old. Another life skill that works well for personal and professional relationships.
