Back To Work Moms- Help With Your Teens!

May 29th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Michael Riera, a family and adolescent counselor, wrote an excellent book Uncommon Sense for Parent with Teenagers.  Best one I’ve read (and I read a ton!).  He helps us navigate the many challenges of adolescence in a way that makes sense and works for BOTH adolescents and parents.

He talks about how we, as parents, have to switch from being managers of our children’s lives to being “consultants”.   He shows us how to “give up the illusion of power in favor of real influence”.  Without the right mindset, the teenage years can be chocked full of frustration and ongoing battles.   With the right mindset- allowing for increased responsibility based on performance and trust- it can be much simpler.  I highly recommend this book!
