Bria Business Tips – Relax, Unwind and Reflect this Holiday

The year is winding down and I am busy trying to tie up any loose ends before I head out to Crested Butte, Colorado with Mark and our 3 kids.

My parents and my 2 sisters and their families will be there so 2 little nieces and 1 nephew running around (and one yet to be determined in my youngest sister’s belly). Mark, the kids and I should get 5-6 good ski days on the mountain. Skiing is something that we really enjoy as a family.

And, as far as the weather goes- I would like to express my gratitude to the inventor of electric boot warmers!!

I am looking forward to getting a chance to unwind, relax and reflect on what a wonderful year it has been. I hope you will make the time to do the same.

Self promotion is one of the toughest challenges, especially for women, that entrepreneurs face as they begin to grow their businesses. Yet, it is something that needs to be overcome and overcome in a hurry.

For solo entrepreneurs in particular, you are often your brand and that brand needs to have a face. People make a connection when they see who they are working with. Your face should be prominent on your website, on your business cards, blogs, and anytime you are reaching out to a new audience.

And not just your face- your voice too. Videos are a powerful way to have people really see you in action. Get a video up on your website or get your own YouTube site and record a video on something that you are promoting, launching or on a important topic that you want to discuss. Not only do people enjoying watching what you have to say, but search engines love video material, so it is great for organic ranking. Don’t obsess over the quality of the footage and the subtlety of the lighting. Get the video shot, post it on your site and get it done. Progress…not Perfection.

If you are not comfortable promoting yourself, than who will? Tell people what you do, get your face associated with your business and unleash your inner superstar.

Bria Business Tips- Time For A Break?

Greetings! I’m sensing some extra angst out there lately- understandable, it’s the end of the year and responsibilities multiply. I’ve found that when things just aren’t meshing, though, a break is in order! It’s amazing how walking away from a problem and endulging in self- care for a bit can clear the mind and ease anxiety.

If you are feeling stuck, odds are your self-care is low. Take a break. Focus on self-care until your energy is back and then dive in again- you’ll have a new perspective that will serve you well.

Bria Business Tips- Realistic Optimism

Barbara Ehrenreich (who wrote “Nickle and Dimed”, a book I loved) wrote another one- called “Bright-Sided”. In it, she mocks the silliness of our overly optimistic culture. Sometimes cancer is just bad, grief really is just grief, and so on. Ms. Ehrenreich insists that putting a positive spin on everything doesn’t let people feel okay about feeling bad.

I agree with her- to some extent. Overly optimisitic can be harmful by not allowing space for grief and sadness. However, I do think there is a place for trying to figure out how our challenging experiences can teach us something. That’s all. It doesn’t mean we try to turn bad into good and pretend bad experiences don’t happen- it just means that sometimes important life lessons are found in trying times.

And something good to remember today, if you are feeling down about money, is that there are always new ways to think about, create, and make money. This is one area where I KNOW turning challenging times into opportunities for learning is not only essential, it’s a key to real happiness!
